Karelian monasteries, Russia

Karelia is one of the regions in the northwest of Russia, which attracts tourist from all over the world. Tourists often go to Russia to admire the beauty of this great and huge country, which has an old history.

Karelia is a region of Russia that is situated on the border with Finland, that’s why Finnish influence is traced everywhere. Many rivers and lakes flow through the region and that is the reason of popularity of Karelia among the tourists.

Many tourists travel in Russia only to see numerous monasteries spread trough the whole country. Karelia is also one of the regions in Russia where many remarkable monasteries are situated.

The Konevskij monastery is one of the most ancient ones in Russia. It is located on the Konevec Island. The monastery was founded in 1393. During the centuries the monastery was damaged, but the monks of the monastery restored it again and again.

The Muromsky monastery is located on a small island in the eastern part of Lake Onega. It was founded in the middle of 14-th century. There are two churches on the territory of this monastery.

The Solovetsky monastery is situated on the Solovetsky Islands. It was big religious center in the 16-th century.  Many churches were built on its territory. The monastery was closed at the beginning of the XX century.

Trip to Karelia is one of the best way to see Russia and Eurasia. It is not an Asia cruise, but it is definitely no less exotic than a China tour or any China travel. Karelia is considered by many to be one of the best tourist destinations on our planet.
